Snail's Pace

Recently flying with someone with whom I, in a wine-induced weak moment, shared the fact that I had created this web site for family and friends to openly see photographs I’ve taken. Oh boy….now I did IT! The Accountability Factor to get things done, photos edited and create something fairly decent to share became a stark reality. I suppose that’s a good thing…? I’ve sat in a lazy space for quite awhile, thinking nobody would really want to look at anything I’ve shot…..BUT, there are a few of you, I guess! Thank you, ALL of you! There have been amazing places and people I’ve seen; sharing some of my memories is an honor. So……slowly…..I will keep adding what I can. Thanks in advance for patience!

Still Here….!

JULY 15, 2025

Okay, so I’m not much of a writer….not a consistent blogger….and certainly NOT committed to this site…yet! Quite a lot of LIFE has happened…as to us all, right? I’ve kept at the photography going as best as time allowed. There have been more trips to Africa, the San Diego Zoo, “SloCal'“ and numerous classes and workshops. No one genre seems to bite my enthusiasm….but there are a couple that I find fun. You be the judge! but I’ll tell ya, I’ve cared too much about others’ opinions on this hobby/craft. It took time but I now really believe… BEAUTY TRULY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER! Look at ALL art with a thoughtful eye; it means something to another human being. Respect our individuality!

What’s this all ABOUT?

It all begins with an idea.

It started with a fairly good camera, a trip to Kenya and an amateur (novice at best) photographer. In Africa, with my camera set on Auto and some pure, dumb luck, I started as a “Happy Snapper”. (That’s what one of my Photography Class Instructors calls us beginners.) With a bit more dumb luck on my Kenyan Safari, I met some very helpful and creative people; the Camp Manager at Richards River Camp offered a few techniques and camera settings that elevated my primitive skills and saved some amazing memories of my amazing African Safari!

With that little trip, the Photography Bug bit…I needed to know more and more. Jumping in head first, I’ve read books, taken classes, picked my friends’ brains and practiced, practiced, practiced. I know, I know….IPhones take GREAT photos and everyone is an Ansel Adams with them….and I know it will be a lifelong journey on the tail feathers of faster moving technology… but this is a passion FOR ME! Yes…with my older, slower, heavier than an anchor Canon DSLR, I am going to snap on! And yes, it IS just for me… but this site was originally intended for family, friends and curious acquaintances to look at their leisurely pace. So… if you’re here by some other off chance reason, go ahead… take a look…..and I hope you can enjoy a few pictures, smile and continue on with an even nicer day!
